In 2007, one Taiwan PC brand announced a new concept product-Netbook, which adopted LED as backlight source. With LED specific features-light, slim & power efficient, ASUS successfully applied LED backlight to notebook that suddenly became a trend triggering a strong demand of low cost, high efficiency LED products in NB backlight market. In the meantime, LED products of tier-one companies might fulfill notebook requirements; however, the selling prices were over budget. On the contrary, Taiwan companies had the low cost advantage, but the efficiency and reliability still cannot meet the requirements of notebook applications.

Project Results
This particular LED product has been mass produced since 2008 and the average shipment was over 100KK per month. By 2009, the shipment was up to 200KK per month, for the expansion of market demands. Nowadays, Epistar has more than 40% share in NB backlight market.
